• In this passage from Luke’s Gospel Simon Peter and his fishing companions reluctantly obeyed the Lord and subsequently witnessed a miraculous catch of fish. Have you had a similar experience where in a posture of obedience to God, He has blessed you beyond your imagination? Is there a situation which you are presently in that demands this same response of submission to God?
  • When Simon Peter witnessed this amazing catch of fish, he acknowledged his own sinfulness and asked the Lord to leave in light of his unworthiness. Have you ever struggled with excessive focus on your own frailties and sinfulness and from there, thought mistakenly that the Lord could not use you in spreading His Good News, that He only uses holy and saintly people? When reflecting on the abuse scandal, is this the case or not?
  • We hear how the Lord told Simon Peter to be not afraid as he would now be catching men. Have you struggled in evangelizing those around you due to fear? Do you feel that the mission of evangelizing here at Franciscan is as strong as it should be? How I can better witness to Jesus with my colleagues and students with whom I work?
  • At the end of this passage we hear how the disciples left everything to follow Jesus. Are there things (or attitudes or habits) that I am clinging to which are keeping me from radically and completely following the Lord? Can I abandon them at this time?
